A risk score is useful for ranking events. It becomes dangerous when treated as a complete decision detached from policy and context.

Separate detection from action

Detection estimates that a case deserves attention. Action depends on risk type, amount, applicable rules and the required level of authority.

This separation prevents a model change from silently altering measures applied to accounts or payments.

A threshold or severity level should be tested over a defined period. Teams can then observe coverage, workload and cases whose treatment would change.

Guardrails remain dominant during the simulation. They represent limits the current setting cannot exceed.

Preserve the reasoning

A defensible decision connects the signal, reviewed facts, applied policy and person taking action. The audit trail must reconstruct that sequence.

Traceability supports internal control, case review and improvement of the system.
